Self-duality and Spin(7)-structures from dimensions greater than eight

Abstract

Eight dimensional manifolds with Spin(7)-structure have played a prominent role in M-Theory discussions. In this talk, special geometric structures in higher dimensions, which reduce to Spin(7)-structures in eight dimensions, will be discussed.
