How to reach the conference site and
the hotels
The conference will be held in the former Department of Physics located
on the Arcetri Hill, a beautiful surrounding of the South part of the
city. The address is Via E. Fermi 2, 50125 Firenze - tel: +39 055
230751. The building now hosts the Department of Astrophysics and is
next to other buildings of the Florence Observatory and other
scientific institutions. On the same hill (10 min. walking) in Via del
Pian dei Giullari, one can find the villa where Galileo was condemned
and spent the last part of his life. Please find information on how to
reach Florence and the Arcetri Hill at the following page (warning: here
you find indications for reaching the new location of Dept. of
Physics, in the Polo Scientifico, Sesto Fiorentino that does not
concern you).
From the town centre, you can reach Arcetri by bus no.11, getting down
at the crossing of via del Poggio Imperiale and via del Gelsomino
(tickets at tobacconists and newsstands, Euro 1).
Location of Hotels
Three of the agreed Hotels (Classic, Villa Betania and Villa Agape)
are located walking distance from Arcetri. From Railway Station S.
Maria Novella take bus no.11 to Classic and Villa Betania. Villa
Agape can be reached by bus no.13, but a taxi would be better. It
costs 10-15 Euro from the train station.
Albergo Firenze is located next to the Duomo, and so 10 min. walk to
the train station. Otherwise any bus going to the Piazza Duomo would
work.
The Florence bus system information can be found at the following page . For those of you coming by plane,
please note that low fare companies operate from the Pisa or Bologna
airports. Both are one hour by train to Florence. The Florence
airport is also well connected to many European cities but operates
regular flights only.
Further information can be found in the Web page of the Physics
Institutions of Florence: Dept. of
Physics and INFN, Florence
Theory Group and Dept. of
Astrophysics and Observatory .
