In July 1998, Georgy Grechko, cosmonaut and twice hero of Soviet Union greets the Italian team on the lake Cheko.

It was his second visit of the lake Cheko. The first time he was here in July 1960 with a group of young researchers, sponsored by the Soviet Space Agency. The group, guided by V. A. Koshelev, accurately explored the lake Cheko to find the remnants of the alien space ship which explosion caused the Tunguska catastrophe. Unfortunately, no trace of the alien space ship was found. The main result of the expedition was the first bathymetry of the lake Cheko.
